This recent article in the New York Daily News, reports on a book coming out by George Piro, a former FBI agent that bonded with Saddam Hussein in months after his capture. The most important part of information found in the article was this:
"Saddam thought UN sanctions would go away and he could make a nuclear bomb. His prewar weapons of mass destruction deceptions were a ruse to convince Iran - whom he feared - that he had an arsenal."
In other words, one of our reasons for overthrowing Saddam, nuclear weapons aspirations, turned out to be true. Also, the explanation given by the Bush Administration of why Saddam didn't possess mass stock piles of WMD, Saddam wanted to deter his neighboring enemies, also turned out to be a correct assumption.
