Yup, it's time for all the protesters mobbing the state capital, to pack up their shit and go home.
Protesting is your constitutional right. But just because you have "the right" to assemble, does not lend any legitimacy you your grievances.
Actually I would venture to say possibly at this point the protests are no more than a means to obstruct our duly elected government's ability to do his job.
So let's call it for what it is. Let's talk about the grievances. The infamous "budget repair bill". But first, have you read the bill? I recommend doing so before you head to Walmart for posterboard, and if by chance you even have a job, you may want to make sure you can get the time off of work to go to madison, and if you do, don't forget your sleeping bag for the weeks of overnight stays at the capital. You might want to bring your own toilet paper as well.
So before you spend all your time, money and energy, make sure you read the bill, unless your one of those hippie anarchist unemployed types, get to the protest, there all waiting for ya man. Then you can do your thing and stick it to the evil republican and think your so cool because you believe you doing something that has meaning. Think again bro, it's just the pot.
But I digress, and for real human beings who are still capable of thinking interdependently here's the nutshell: Under the bill public employees will contribute more to their pensions and health costs and taxpayers will get more of a say on what can be negotiated..More interestingly, Union dues have to be personally mailed in so you can say goodbye to the automatic campaign contribution deduction from peoples paychecks directly into the hands of the Democrat party.
That along with refinancing some other debt..That's it. Now, match the relative mediocrity of the bill with the tragedy that's happened at our state capital. The capital is a mess, our representatives are being heckled and harassed and our states senators have fled the state in order to avoid voting on the bill. What a freaking mess, all over some restructuring and contribution % increases. Now I can see this bill enraging the democrats in the house and senate, but it's hardly protest worthy for everyone else, who it will actually benefit. The only loser's are the liberal politicians who have ridden the Union wave for the last 60 years in Wisconsin at the cost of the taxpayers and our economy.
If you want to be objective, don't fool yourself about what these protest's are really about.
Republican's haven't controlled both the executive and the legislature since 1938, What you're really seeing in Madison is Liberalism's last dieing breath after years and years of dominance and power in Wisconsin..And the universities and the unions are the battleground.
