Assuming Al Gore's theory of man made global warming is true, which it is not, awarding him the Nobel Peace Prize was a stretch. The basic theory behind awarding the prize to Gore was that man made global warming will ultimately lead to conflict due to the lack of natural resources caused by increases in the global temperature. The reality is the Nobel Peace Prize has largely turned into a popularity contest, where the recipient must subscribe to a left-wing ideology.
Think back to 2002 when Jimmy Carter won the prize. The main reasons were his participation in the Israel/Egypt Camp David Accords, and helping to bring peace to North Korea and Haiti. Well, obviously the latter did not occur, and it turned out that Carter played little to no role, except for providing a place for the document to be signed, in the peace agreement between Israel and Egypt. Furthermore, his inaction during the Iranian hostage crisis has put the world in a situation today where one hears rumors of World War III as Iran seeks to go nuclear. Again, the reality was Carter was popular in a circle that subscribes to a left-wing ideology.
Side note: This year the Nobel Prize for Literature went to a feminist writer, and I'm not going to waste my time googling it to remember her name.
