n 1965, near the town of Kecksburg, Pennsylvania, an object landed in the woods. The scene caused havoc as nearby residents swarmed to the scene, tying up traffic in the area for hours. Onlookers were kept at a distance by the military.

Later; the Air Force described the object as a meteor. An Air Force memo stated that nothing could be found at the site. The official Air Force and NASA explanation didn't sit well with witnesses who stated they saw a flat bed truck leave the area with an acorn shaped object on board. It was described as being the size of a volkswagon bus.

UFO hunters refused to let the matter die and sought a court order for documents NASA has relating to the incident. The agency released stacks of documents, but journalist Leslie Kean says the documents were not a true response to the court order. U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan agreed and refused a NASA attempt to have the case thrown out of court.

Since; NASA has agreed to perform a more exhaustive search for documents relating to the UFO incident. Kean said she did not pursue the military because NASA did release some relevant documents.

"This is about the public's right to know," Kean said. "We would be doing this lawsuit regardless of whether UFO groups were interested in it or not. It's a freedom of information issue."

The agency has turned over several stacks of documents which Kean says are not responsive to the request, an argument that U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan agreed with.
