Sudan Charges British Teacher of Blasphemy

A British teacher working in a private school in Sudan has recently been charged with blasphemy. While teaching her students the importance of voting, she allowed them to choose the name of the class teddy bear. The students overwhelmingly picked the name Muhammad for the class bear. Now the teacher faces up to 40 lashes as punishment.

Is their any doubt that cultures that govern themselves by sharia law are morally inferior to western cultures?

Adam Adds:
Yes, but western cultures also had their brutal past. Not under sharia law, but just as immoral. Instead of a sword they used the cleaner and more effective guillotine to take the head off dissidents.

The basis for the machine's success was the belief that it was a form of execution, contrasting with the methods used in pre-revolutionary, (old regime) France. In France, before the guillotine, members of the were beheaded with a sword or axe, while commoners were usually hanged, a form of death that could take minutes or longer - other more gruesome methods of executions were also used, such as wheel"the wheel, burning at the stake, etc. In the case of decapitation, it also sometimes took repeated blows to sever the head completely. The condemned or the family of the condemned would sometimes pay the executioner to ensure that the blade was sharp in order to provide for a quick and relatively painless death.
