New York Times Covers the Savage Controversy

Today, the New York Times reports on the ongoing controversy surrounding talk radio show host Michael Savage. Within this report the Times gives on some historical background information on Savage. According the New York Times:

Mr. Savage proudly calls himself conservative, even right wing, and his audience has proved to be both enormous and loyal, sticking with him after MSNBC pulled the plug on a simulcast of his radio show in 2003. The action came after he said he hoped a caller to his radio show, who had identified himself as gay, would die of AIDS.

First, MSNBC did not simulcast the Savage radio show, rather the television show was completely separate from his radio show. Furthermore, Savage's show was not pull off the air at MSNBC because he said he hoped a gay caller would die of AIDS, rather Savage said he had hoped the caller would die from choking on a sausage.

This is another example of sloppy reporting by the MSM. I think the first step the MSM should implement is limiting their errors to one a paragraph.

Tammy Bruce comments on Gillian Gibbons and the Feminist response

Tammy Bruce appeared on fox news recently and commented on the overwhelming lack of response from some of the main stream feminist groups to Mrs. Gibbon's upsadaisy in Sudan. (Video Below)
For naming a Teddy Bear Muhammad Mrs. Gibbon's was almost beaten, jailed and even killed. The equivalent in this country is so very contrast to the NORM of this brutal behavior in some of these countries. I don't think Islam is an evil or even flawed religion. What we have here are vicious gangs, so brutal that the consequences of disobedience out weigh the safety of complacency moderate Muslims enjoy. It just strikes me funny that leftist groups hesitate to condemn such obviously heinous acts. They seem to resent the fact that conservatism has been the fundamental ideology behind our foreign policies and military.
Acknowledging something conservatives have been saying all along is just to hard for them to do .

Republicans Report Better Mental Health

According to a new Gallup poll, which consisted of 4,014 respondents, Republican are more likely to consider their own mental health as excellent, and are more than twice as unlikely to consider their mental health as poor. I'm not shocked. I personally was surprised that more Democrats didn't report poor mental health, I would have guessed that would have been at least 80%

Creative Plant

The planted question by the Hillary camp in the last Republican debate can be deemed as somewhat creative. This is because the issue at hand, don't ask don't tell, has no relevance to the Republican primary process. This is an issue that all Republican candidates agree on, in result, the only purpose it served was to re-enforce Democratic voters why they disagree with the Republican candidates. Questions asked during the primary process should be questions that show potential voters the differences of the candidates. I would like to see CNN allow a Romney employee ask a question, directed to the Democratic candidates, on an issue they all agree upon, and afterwards allow the questioner an opportunity to give a short speech on why they're wrong. I won't hold my breath.

Solution to Voter ID Legislation

The main argument against requiring voters to present a valid state id in order to vote is that it would create a type of tax on the poor that can't afford the id. The solution to this is simple: have the state or federal government subsidize ids for individuals that fall under a certain income level. As a conservative I am against governmental subsidies 99% of the time, but I feel after doing a cost/benefit analysis this would make sense. First, it would be cheap, since obtaining a state id card is very inexpensive. Second, it would take away liberals' only excuse to be against it, thus ensuring that left-winged groups like ACORN would have a harder time engaging in voter fraud, since every election they do.

Sudan Charges British Teacher of Blasphemy

A British teacher working in a private school in Sudan has recently been charged with blasphemy. While teaching her students the importance of voting, she allowed them to choose the name of the class teddy bear. The students overwhelmingly picked the name Muhammad for the class bear. Now the teacher faces up to 40 lashes as punishment.

Is their any doubt that cultures that govern themselves by sharia law are morally inferior to western cultures?

Yes, but western cultures also had their brutal past. Not under sharia law, but just as immoral. Instead of a sword they used the cleaner and more effective guillotine to take the head off dissidents.

Islamic Terrorists Pay Mexican Drug Lords For Assistance Crossing U.S. Border

Though, in general, I'm usually skeptical of the argument that Islamic terrorist could potentially sneak across our southern borders to harm us, this article in the Washington Times has changed my train of thought somewhat. The article reports that Iraqi and Afghani terrorists tried to pay Mexican drug lords to help them sneak weapons and them across our southern border.

According to the FBI advisory, each Middle Easterner paid Mexican drug lords $20,000 "or the equivalent in weapons" for the cartel's assistance in smuggling them and their weapons through tunnels along the border into the U.S. The weapons would be sent through tunnels that supposedly ended in Arizona and New Mexico, but the Islamist terrorists would be smuggled through Laredo, Texas, and reclaim the weapons later.

Newsbusters.org has the low down on the Tom Brokaw interview with Laura Ingram.

Brokaw insisted Limbaugh "doesn’t want to hear another point of view, except his." Ingraham disagreed. Brokaw added: "The problem with talk radio is they only want to hear one note...The problem with talk radio is they mock anyone else’s point of view, and they do it often in a mindless fashion."

INGRAHAM: So I just resent the whole, you mention Rush Limbaugh in the book, you [have] kind of a throw-away line about Limbaugh and it’s in the Drug section, and without a doubt, Rush Limbaugh is the most influential boomer, I think, in the media today. Darren Brown gets someones wallet just by asking

For those who wonder how he did it, we can look to American psychiatrist Milton Erickson who writes on the specific technique used by Darren Brown.

The Handshake Induction

Confusion is the basis of Erickson's famous hypnotic handshake. Many actions are learned and operate as a single "chunk" of behavior: shaking hands and tying shoelaces being two classic examples. If the behavior is diverted or frozen midway, the person literally has no mental space for this - he is stopped in the middle of unconsciously executing a behavior that hasn't got a "middle". The mind responds by suspending itself in trance until either something happens to give a new direction, or it "snaps out". A skilled hypnotist can often use that momentary confusion and suspension of normal processes to induce trance quickly and easily.

By interrupting the pattern of a 'normal' handshake in some way, the hypnotist causes the subject to wonder what is going on. If the handshake continues to develop in a way which is out-of-keeping with expectations, a simple, non-verbal trance is created, which may then be reinforced or utilized by the hypnotist. All these responses happen naturally and automatically without telling the subject to consciously focus on an idea.

The various descriptions of Erickson's hypnotic handshake, including his own very detailed accounts, indicate that a certain amount of improvisation is involved, and that watching and acting upon the subject's responses is key to a successful outcome. The most important thing is that the 'normal' handshake is subverted in such a way to cause puzzlement, which may then be built upon.

* Initiation: When I begin by shaking hands, I do so normally. The "hypnotic touch" then begins when I let loose. The letting loose becomes transformed from a firm grip into a gentle touch by the thumb, a lingering drawing away of the little finger, a faint brushing of the subject's hand with the middle finger - just enough vague sensation to attract the attention. As the subject gives attention to the touch of your thumb, you shift to a touch with your little finger. As your subject's attention follows that, you shift to a touch with your middle finger and then again to the thumb.
* This arousal of attention is merely an arousal without constituting a stimulus for a response.
* The subject's withdrawal from the handshake is arrested by this attention arousal, which establishes a waiting set, and expectancy.
* Then almost, but not quite simultaneously (to ensure separate neural recognition), you touch the undersurface of the hand (wrist) so gently that it barely suggests an upward push. This is followed by a similar utterly slight downward touch, and then I sever contact so gently that the subject does not know exactly when - and the subject's hand is left going neither up nor down, but cataleptic.
* Termination: If you don't want your subject to know what you are doing, you simply distract their attention, usually by some appropriate remark, and casually terminate. Sometimes they remark, "What did you say? I got absentminded there for a moment and wasn't paying attention to anything." This is slightly distressing to the subjects and indicative of the fact that their attention was so focused and fixated on the peculiar hand stimuli that they were momentarily entranced so they did not hear what was said.
* Utilisation: Any utilisation leads to increasing trance depth. All utilisation should proceed as a continuation of extension of the initial procedure. Much can be done nonverbally; for example, if any subjects are just looking blankly at me, I may slowly shift my gaze downward, causing them to look at their hand, which I touch and say "look at this spot.". This intensifies the trance state. Then, whether the subjects are looking at you or at their hand or just staring blankly, you can use your left hand to touch their elevated right hand from above or the side - so long as you merely give the suggestion of downward movement. Occasionally a downward nudge or push is required. If a strong push or nudge is required, check for anaesthesia.

Richard Bandler was a keen proponent of the handshake induction, and developed his own variant, which is commonly taught in NLP workshops.

Any habitual pattern which is interrupted unexpectedly will cause sudden and light trance. The handshake is a particularly good pattern to interrupt because the formality of a handshake is a widely understood set of social rules. Since everyone knows that it would be impolite to comment on the quality of a handshake, regardless of how strange it may be, the subject is obliged to embark on an inner search (known as a transderivational search, a universal and compelling type of trance) to identify the meaning or purpose of the subverted pattern.

Drudge helps make Democratic Debate tonight a must see

The story posted by Drudge days ago wasn't linked up to any source, these are always the good ones. Wolf Blizter has denied the claims by Drudge that he was told by Hillary staffers to avoid any "Ganging up on Hillary" at tonights Democratic Debate. Matt Drudge has been wrong maybe twice in his 15 year career. If Drudge has a source inside the Hillary Campaign we can't forget that if caught, they could risk dog napping, vandalism and threats. Turns out that this won't be the first time wolf has gone soft on Hillary.
Drudge has at least done us a big favor.

Contrasting Anti-War Factions

Sister Toldjah writes has a story this week titled "Can we question their patriotism yet?". It covers a Missouri couple that had their Anti-war display vandalized by another Anti-war group. Damn funny and sad at the same time.
